Country Thrift Store

Okay, so it’s not technically ‘country’ but compared to city livin’ in Berkeley, it feels like it.  You know you’re not in the bay area when you can find the steals I got today in Woodland, CA.   It’s just a hop skip and a jump away, off I-80, neighboring Davis my old college stomping grounds.

The first stop was Yolo Hospice Thrift Store.  I knew it was going to be exciting when I looked for the streetside parking meters and discovered you could -yes, really – park there for FREE!  Gasp!

I bought a pre-packaged bundle of vintage quilt squares all pre-cut into 8″ squares, marked $1.75

There didn’t seem to be any rhyme or reason to them, but I love them none-the-less and look forward to putting them to good use.  My favorite was the Holly Hobbie.  It reminds me of my girlhood, and the coveted Holly Hobbie lunchbox I absolutely adored.

After these treasures, I also found a lovely warm yellow linen- one yard marked $1.  The best part came at the check-out where I discovered that everything was 50% off!  Whoa.  AND I’ll tell you a little secret – there was a sign posted by the register letting us know that the thrift store is having a special vintage fabric sale on March 10th from 6 to 8pm.  Imagine, enough vintage fabric stock that they need to have special store hours to pull it out and sell it.  Save your pennies, I’ll meet you there!

The Goodwill just down the street had a big box full of lovely vintage patterns at 99 cents a piece. If you’re ever in the area, I recommend you stop for a look around.  Happy thrifting!  What’s your best thrift store fabric find?

I’ve been working it out in my head. I wish it wasn’t so late in the day… my kiddos will have to come but I can drop ’em off at their Nana’s house while I shop.
